The Beginning: June 11th, 2009 @ approximately 10:30 am, and confirmed at 4:30 pm, I was diagnosed with Invasive Lobular Carcinoma, AKA, Breast Cancer! I would soon find out I would be spending my summer vacation in and out of the St. Francis Women's Health Center. If there is anything good to say about timing, it's that I have been blessed with a teaching job and have ten weeks to concentrate on my journey to survival! Mom, Dad, twin, Daughter Brittany and best friend were with me from the start.

Currently: The past two weeks have been spent in and out of appointments to get me acquainted with all the members of my team. So far, all have been honest, helpful, up-front and have treated me as though I am the only woman on the planet with this disease!

By the way ladies, if you need Mammos, the Carol Milguard Center in Tacoma ROCKS!

Next Up: Surgery is scheduled for July 2nd at St. Francis Hospital by Dr. Richard Gould. At the time of surgery, I will have a mastectomy to remove the right breast. ( The tumor caused by the cancer is too large for a lumpectomy). Following surgery, I will undergo 3 to 6 months of chemotherapy, then 3-6 weeks of radiation. Reconstruction will occur after treatment.

PRAY, PRAY, PRAY, that God will take this horrifying disease from my body! Thank you all for your support!

  9. Tut, My Friend:
It breaks my heart to know that you are walking the journey that I traveled nearly 10 years ago.
You have been guided to a wonderful team of doctors who will see to it that you will overcome the beast that is growing inside of you. The days will be long and arduous, but survivorship is amazing!
On the day that I was diagnosed my doctor said that he would make sure that I would see my grandchildren, I never had my life summed up like that before, but that is what I live for.
So in your most challenging moments, take yourself to the quiet place within yourself and believe that after this nightmare is over, you will look back at this time in your life and be thankful for your spirit, medical team, and loved ones who pray for your recovery.
If there is ANYTHING you need, please let me know! I Love You Teri!!! Carmen

  10. As one who is praying for you, I believe that God will hear our prayers. He will guide the physican's hand to safely correct the damage and destroy this invasive disease which has entered your body. You will be stronger, you will be a voice, and you will be around for the other lives you must touch. Continue to have faith and display an aura of euphoria. Sandra T

  11. Hi to my BFF and sister in Christ. I am so very proud of your positive attitude and the courage you have shown. I truly believe that our 60 mile walk for breast cancer together was not a coincidence, but rather a test for this experience that you will go through. I will be there with you every step. Keep the faith my friend and remember....."those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength and they shall mount up with wings like EAGLES.." I love you! T

  12. Teri,
I've been thinking about you. I wish you much strength during this very, very difficult time.
I have the following prayer on my computer desktop--and it gets me through tough times--I thought it might help you.
It helps me stay focused and keep moving. It helps me look forward and not get stuck in a desperate, hopeless place.
Otherwise, I can get paralyzed by the 'why me' and 'what next!#!?' and 'i can't handle another thing!'
    This, too, shall pass.
    many hugs,
    diane

    St. Theresa's Prayer
May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you....
May you be content knowing you are a child of God....
Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.

We helped eachother and we parted. we tried to get together, but life kept us apart.we conected again, but life again happened. It does not matter because we always know when the chips are down, one of us will be there when needed. Still wondering? yelling at the TV was more entertaining than the game. darts anyone?
Im here, you need something from me? let me know... Prayers to Him that heals.

    miss you very much,
